Climate Change Poem by Maitiu O’Ceallaigh

30yy_53125gallaghersA very thought provoking poem written by 5th year Maitiu O’ Ceallaigh about climate change.

Crystal clear the water once was,

               Pure, sustaining and vibrant because,

All was stable, in balance at ease,

There was yet a man to please.

But as he sized up the potential,

Food, travel, profits exponential,

He developed new technologies,

Slaughtering, polluting, no apologies.

Fish had once been abundant,

Stop me if I sound redundant,

But has man no shame,

When he is solely to blame.

For the coral reefs,

One of creations intricate motifs,

Now dead, rotting, corrupted,

Nature’s eternal balance disrupted.

The seas they rise,

Plotting man’s demise,

For such is nature’s wrath,

That it can alter man’s flight path.

So as we plummet towards destruction,

A truly dramatic production,

We must try to change our ways,

Before it is us set ablaze.
